1990 Ferrari 348 TS

“It’s a taste issue”

Tim Gunn, fashion celebrity and former Project Runway host, would often critique young designers who created a trashy garment for the show by saying they had “taste issues.” Today’s 348 is full of taste issues.

Brought to market by dealer “Vic” via Bring a Trailer this 38k mile example is black over black and currently resides in Portland.

When I see a car like this, modified in the way that it is, I immediately think (with a fair degree of certainty) that a previous owner didn’t really appreciate the car for it was and wished they could have bought something more modern. By extension, I presume that the owner couldn’t really afford to maintain the car properly and that its ownership was a financial stretch.

When I see a car with modifications that also has broken and/or damaged factory parts I’m doubly convinced that we’re dealing with a poorly maintained car.

Why would one cover the interior in (likely faux) carbon fiber trim when there are broken and missing OEM trim pieces? I don’t get it. it’s like putting a deck on a house which has a leaky roof.

Estimate: $57,500

My thoughts:

  • I dunno, I guess for the right price. But with minimal records and all these clues I think this one probably has a mountain of deferred maintenance.
  • The car clearly has paint issues. Get paint meter readings to know their full extent.
