“How wonderful yellow is. It stands for the sun.”
I’m just going to come right out and say it: yellow is the best color for a 348.
It’s better than red — and not just because of its ubiquity —it’s also better than white, or black, or silver, or even the blue one your buddy sent you that sold for $335k in Miami.
Not only is yellow aesthetically pleasing on the 348, it suits an era — something I call the “Saved by the Bell era” — of cars which bridged the late 80s and early 90s – an era in which manufacturers weren’t afraid of color or bold cladding.
The Wall fell, capitalism won, and The West was full of optimism.
For the first time in my generation’s life we weren’t afraid of nuclear conflagration and the automakers were there to sell us a bright blue Geo Storm (or similar) to celebrate.
Today’s car is a very nice low-mile ts from Michael’s Motorcars in Neptune NJ and presented via Bring a Trailer.
Yellow over black, and in what looks to be excellent condition (nitpicks below), our car comes with the extremely desirable (and expensive to source) Speedline “Alessio” wheels which add to its aggression.
The only thing that might hold the car back from the stratosphere (collectors take note) is the aftermarket paint on the bumpers, side skirts, and engine cover. At some point in its life — I’d bet while at the original selling dealer – these pieces were changed from satin black, as they left the factory, to yellow.
Does it look better this way? I say yes. Will the market punish the deviation? We’ll see.
Estimate: $93,000

My thoughts:
- If you don’t care about completely original paint this is a great car.
- Still, get paint meter readings!
- And for god’s sake get rid of those fender shields! It’s not an F40.
